RANTOUL -- An area man is accused of killing his foster son. Patrick Kennedy is in jail after a baby in his care died from brain trauma and broken ribs.
He faces murder charges for killing the 7-week old boy. Police arrested him in the 400 Block of Belle Avenue. It was just seven days after Kennedy called 911 saying little Daniel Wilkins was vomiting and unresponsive.
Diana Grabow lives just four houses down.
"I just can't understand how someone could do that to a little innocent baby," says Grabow.
The State's Attorney says both Kennedy and police tried CPR. When the child got to the hospital, doctors found bleeding on the baby's brain and broken ribs; all injuries the hospital says were caused by blunt force from an adult.
"Where is the mother when this happened, you know? How could she let that happen to her own child? That's what I don't understand," says Grabow.
The State's Attorney says the infant had been living with Kennedy and his wife since birth. The biological mother lost custody because she is in a relationship with a registered sex offender.
"I'm family-oriented so I can't see people hurting other people's children let alone their own," says Grabow.
Police say Kennedy's wife wasn't home at the time and she hasn't been charged. After trying to speak with Kennedy's wife, a friend of the family would only say they're hiring a lawyer.
"That poor kid has no life. Doesn't even get a chance for life," says Grabow.
Kennedy will be in court April 25, at 1:30 pm.
