Police arrest man wanted for shooting after fight

URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) -- METRO SWAT officers arrested 37-year old Jonathan Stevens for Thursday afternoon's shooting in the 800-block of Fairview. 

Police say Stevens got into an argument that turned physical with 52-year old family member.  Shortly after the fight, Stevens reportedly returned with a gun and shot the victim in his legs.  He fled from area at that time.  While the victim was taken to the hospital for treatment.  

The United States Marshals Service Great Lakes Fugitive Task Force has assisted Urbana Police Department detectives in locating Stevens. As a result of the investigation, his whereabouts were confirmed.

Urbana police detectives obtained a search warrant for a hotel room in the 400 Block of West University.

Saturday at approximately 3:56 a.m., METRO SWAT executed a search warrant in the 400 Block of West University. Jonathan Travis Stevens was located inside of that hotel room.

He was arrested and taken to the Champaign County Jail on the previously issued $500,000 arrest warrant charging him with Aggravated Battery with a Firearm.  Stevens will be arraigned on Monday for the crime.

The investigation on the incident is ongoing.  Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers. Tipsters are always 100% completely anonymous.

URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) -- An elementary school was on high alert after a shooting sent a man to the hospital. It happened just after 2:00 pm, in the 800-block of Fairview. It's just blocks from Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary.

School administrators coordinated a safety plan once the shooter left the scene. Police and administrators watched closely as students dismissed.

Police says two men got into an argument which turned physical. After the fight, one of the men left the house and came back with a gun. The suspect left the scene, then police were called.

When they arrived, they found a 52-year old man shot. He was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. 

There have been no arrests at this time and police are still investigating.

URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) -- A man was taken to the hospital after an afternoon shooting in the 800-block of Fairview.

Officers found the 52-year old man with wounds related to a gunshot to the lower extremities. The victim was transported to a local hospital and treated for a non-life threatening injuries.

Police say the victim and another man got into an argument which escalated into a fight. Shortly afterwards, the offender, returned to the residence with a handgun and shot the victim. The suspect then left the scene in a vehicle.

The shooting was not random and there is no obvious concern for the general public. Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School was alerted by police of the shooting. Once police said it was safe, the school was able to let the children go home.
