VERMILION COUNTY -- Several people showed up at the Vermilion County Courthouse for a sentencing hearing. Ryan Brigman pleaded guilty to hanging his dog, Kilo, from a tree last fall.

Shortly after it happened, the Justice for Kilo group was formed. Members asked the State's Attorney for the maximum sentence. Brigman has already spent 8-and-a-half months in jail. He's getting out and will spend the next three months on probation.

Some hope the case serves as a reminder. Brigman's sentence also bans him from owning or being around animals. He also has to get counseling.
