Memorial Day ceremonies

SPRINGFIELD -- Residents celebrated Memorial Day. It's is a time to remember those who served our country. Ceremonies have been taking place all day.

It was a sea of red, white and blue as hundreds of people showed up at Camp Butler National Cemetery to pay their respects to veterans who lost their lives for American freedom.

War veterans And families braced Monday's heat to listen to a speech from Lieutenant Colonel and Congresswoman Tammy Duckworth (D).

Duckworth wanted to remind Americans Memorial Day is more than barbecues and a three day weekend, but a day of respect. Camp Butler National Cemetery was able to get all 211 flag poles in place for the event.

This marks the tenth anniversary of Duckworth's helicopter incident which left her injured.

Memorial Day ceremonies don't just stop Monday. Duckworth will be attending events Tuesday at Athens And Trinity Lutheran high schools.
