CHAMPAIGN COUNTY -- Part of the jail got a bit of a facelift, but the sheriff says there's still a lot of work to do. County leaders want to wait and see what needs to be done to fix the jail. The sheriff says the time has come to do something about it. It will be a long-term process.

But, here's a quicker fix. One of the recommendations made by an outside group was to make the front lobby at the satellite jail a little nicer, so the county spent about $2,000 getting more comfortable chairs and new carpet. Over time, the toys kept here broke or got taken away, so they were replaced.

The sheriff says he doesn't consider this part of the official renovation process, but it's still a way to improve the area. The group made the recommendations to the board two months ago, but county leaders didn't set a specific timeline for the project. The sheriff says he plans to bring up his ideas to the county board after the holidays.
