CHAMPAIGN -- People in Savoy aren't happy about MTD trying to annex the area. Thursday was the second meeting for people to voice concerns about the plan.

MTD wants to add services to both Windsor West and Savoy. The Southwest MTD has dissolved, leaving MTD one step closer to taking over. But, residents say, "no thanks."

Southwest MTD still has to undergo more procedures before it's officially dissolved. Until then, CUMTD says it's taking all the steps it can to annex both areas.

CHAMPAIGN -- The MTD is taking steps to offer more bus service. The Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District is trying to acquire two new areas.

One is the Windsor West area near the Stephens YMCA, and the other is an area near Prairie Meadow subdivision in Savoy. Thursday, the public can voice their opinions at a hearing. One main concern for some is an increase in yearly taxes.
MTD Board Chairman Donald Uchtman said, "If we're going to enjoy the services of MTD, our community is going to be served by it encouraging economic development and other ways as well, that system needs to be funded."

The Windsor West area was previously part of another district, which has since been dissolved. But until they finish all the legal steps required, MTD cannot annex that area.

The public hearing is at the Savoy Recreation Center on August 15 at 7:00 pm, to discuss the annexation of Prairie Meadows. Staff and MTD Board of Trustees members will be present to answer any questions.
