CHAMPAIGN -- People are trying to help neighbors get back on their feet. Their neighborhood watch group is used to working together. People in the Southwood Green Meadow Neighborhood Watch are used to looking for lost dogs and keeping an eye out for criminals. But, this is a whole different effort.
A family in the area lost their home after a fire this month. It started when the dryer caught fire and spread throughout the house after that. Family members lost a lot of things, destroyed by smoke and fire.
Now, neighbors are Taking Action to collect the things they need. Neighbors are looking for a home for the family to move into; preferably one that's Section 8 eligible with three bedrooms since the mother has three children. They're also collecting things like towels, linens, bedroom and kitchen items.
Neighbors say it's tricky to find a new place to live this time of year because students haven't left for the summer. That's why they're reaching out to the community.

CHAMPAIGN -- Champaign firefighters responded to a dryer fire just after 6:30 this evening. The home was in the 2000 Block of Parkdale Drive. The blaze was contained to one room which did suffer smoke and water damage.
One person was at home at the time but got out safely. Fire officials say the wind did play a slight role in feeding the fire when windows and doors were open to ventilate.
