SPRINGFIELD -- Illinois' military families are getting some added assistance from the state. Governor Pat Quinn signed a bill expanding a program offering financial assistance to military families during times of war or conflict.

Military members often take salary cuts when they're deployed. This program offers aid to their families to help cover costs of things like utilities and groceries.

"I think the service-people have never, ever recieved enough for what they go through," said veteran Raymond Buck. "I think any help they would give would be a good thing."

The program has been around since 2003 and has helped close to 30,000 families.
