EDGAR COUNTY -- Residents will have a new place to play this summer. The city council approved a bid to build a splash park in Paris. It will be on the west side of Twin Lakes Park.

Mayor Craig Smith says they were looking for ways to improve the quality of life in the area. This is just one of the ways they'll be able to do that.

"This is a great thing for kids," said Smith. "We're trying to turn our park back into the way it was when I was much younger. It had a lot of things going on out there. And hopefully we'll have a lot of things going on out there now."

Mayor Smith says people from the community raised all the money for the project; close to $200,000. They did it without any grants or other funding. The park should be ready to go by July 4.
