PONTIAC -- An Illinois police department is trying to cope with the deaths of two beloved officers. Officer Casey Kohlmeier was on routine patrol on I-55 Wednesday night when another vehicle hit his squad car. The 29-year old and his K-9 partner, Draco, were killed.
Kohlmeier was a 6-year veteran with the department and an Air Force veteran. The pair had been a team for five years and went everywhere together. Kohlmeier had always dreamed of working with the FBI and had just applied to the Bureau.
The person who hit Kohlmeier's squad car is in the hospital. It was raining at the time of the crash, but investigators aren't sure if weather was a factor.

Draco isn't the only K-9 to die this year. Just three months ago, this K-9, Kali, was also killed in a car accident. She served the Peru Police Department for two years.
