One arrested, 2 sought in robbery of delivery driver

URBANA -- Police arrested one man on preliminary charges of robbery after he allegedly assaulted a Jimmy John's driver. 24-year old Benjamin Velez-Johnson was identified in a photo lineup by a man who went to the police to report a battery, unrelated to the robbery.

That victim told police he had information about the robbery of a delivery driver on October 12. It happened about 3:15 am in the 500-block of East Green. The driver was delivering an unusually large order when he was approached by at least three men.

Police say one man reached in his pocket, pretending to get money, but instead sucker-punched the driver. The victim started to run and pepper-sprayed the initial suspect. Police are still searching for two accomplices involved in the altercation.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers. You can remain anonymous and may earn a cash reward.
