CHAMPAIGN COUNTY -- A Danville man died from a gunshot wound to the head after a shooting incident with police. That's according to Champaign County Coroner Duane Northrup. 33-year old Scott Islam died at an area hospital after the incident. Islam and two others were involved in a police chase early Wednesday morning which ended with the shoot-out with officers.
DANVILLE - Two Vermilion County men face charges after a deadly shooting on Wednesday. Police say both men shot at officers after a car chase. None of the officers involved were hurt. But a Danville man, Scott Islam, died after being shot.
Police say he was with 29-year old Charles Twigg and 27-year old Gaylen Thomas early Wednesday morning. Investigators say they tried to stop the group because they may have been involved in a shooting. The chase ended with the suspects' car crashing into a home on North Logan.
Police say those suspects shot at officers and officers returned gunfire. Those officers are now paid administrative leave. The suspects face weapons charges; both for using them and having stolen firearms.

They shot at police and police returned fire. No officers were hurt in the shootout, but those involved have been given time off.
Police say 29-year old Charles Twigg and 27-year old Gaylen Thomas shot at the officers. They say 33-year old Scott Islam was also involved. He was shot and later pronounced dead. His autopsy is scheduled for Thursday.
DANVILLE -- One man is dead after an early morning shootout with police. It happened on the corner of North Logan and Kimber. WCIA-3's Anthony Antoine has the details.
One suspect was killed. 33-year old Scott Islam died Wednesday afternoon from a gunshot wound.
Neighbors say they never expected to see this kind of violence. Gun shells and caution tape. It's a scene most people never expected to see first thing Wednesday morning.
"I'm shocked, still shocked. I can't believe we heard gunshots at 2 - 3 in the morning out our window."
She's too afraid to show her face.
"First time, it was around 4 - 5 and then, two minutes later, three more rang out."
She called 911 for help.
"Got up, got my kids together and put them in the living room because we were scared."
Police went to investigate. They were looking for a brown car they suspected was involved. They found it on the corner of Fairchild and Kingdom.
Three men were inside. Instead of pulling over, the driver sped off. The chase continued all the way town to Logan Avenue, but the driver was unable to make this sharp turn and crashed into this house.
That's when police and the men exchanged gunfire. Scott Islam was shot and later died at an Urbana hospital. This woman says the brown car police had been looking for was his.
"They're good people. I never had any problems with them. My daughter used to hang out with his daughter. It was a lot of stuff going on over there in that house, so I had her stop going over there. Too many people in and out of that house, so I figured there was stuff going on."
A community is now rattled. Two surviving suspects arrested and one parent who says she'll keep a closer eye on her family moving forward.
"Now, I'm going to be more over-protective."
Neighbors say Scott Islam was expecting a child. No word yet on what charges the other two suspects could face. Illinois State Police are conducting the investigation.

About ten minutes later, officers spotted a car matching the description of a suspect vehicle. When they tried to perform a traffic stop, the vehicle fled the area and eventually crashed at Logan and Kimber.
That's when authorities say people in the vehicle shot at police who returned fire. One man, who was hit, eventually died at an Urbana hospital. No word on what happened with two other suspects in the car.
No officers were hurt in the incident. Illinois State Police are conducting an investigation.

After receiving reports of a brown vehicle possibly being involved, they attempted to stop a vehicle matching that description near Fairchild and Kingdom. The suspect vehicle fled the scene and eventually crashed at Logan and Kimber.
That's when authorities say people in the vehicle exchanged gunfire with officers attempting the stop. One man was hit and was taken to the hospital. He was later transferred to an Urbana facility. No word on his condition.
No one else was hurt. Illinois State Police are conducting an investigation into the incident.
