NATIONAL -- There could be trouble ahead for a crucial part of the Affordable Care Act. A federal appeals court ruled the subsidies for insurance plans in healthcare marketplaces are illegal in more than half the states, including Illinois.

However, another appellate court in Virginia upheld the subsidies Tuesday. The cases are expected to be appealed to the Supreme Court. Low income people will continue to pay the subsidized price of insurance plans until the matter is resolved.
