Some of the places I visit on the road are fairly new.  Others have been around...for a really long time. Cruisers drive-thru in Effingham is one of those.

Cruisers is not a place where you are going to find trendy, gourmet items on the menu.  Some of the more popular menu items?

"Pork burger with Sweet Baby Rays barbecue sauce, onions, pickles, served on a seeded bun, very popular around here. Bosco sticks is kind of a staple, they've caught on," said Bob Niemerg, owner of Cruisers. "We serve really good food. The kind of food that you like, and we serve it to you fast.  And that's what it is all about."

You know in the summer, there's nothing like a good cheeseburger and a cold drink in a nice air-conditioned restaurant?  Yeah, that's not cruisers. Cruisers has no inside seating, and no plans to add it.

"Well, it would just make us that much busier...I don't know if we could handle it.  That's a good problem to have," said Niemerg.

You can eat outside on the patio, but if you want air-conditioning, you have to stay in your car.  That's what most people do.  It is a drive-thru after all.

The building has been in operation as a drive-thru restaurant since the 40's. It's been serving burgers ever since
