ILLINOIS -- Earlier this week, Illinois lost one of its greats, Gene Callahan. He served as a manager for a number of campaigns, including longtime U.S. Senator Alan Dixon.

Friday, friends and family gathered to honor Callahan's last wish. It was for a pizza party downtown. Callahan was a trusted advisor for politicians on both sides of the aisle; beloved by many for his "say it as it is" attitude. Callahan proposed to his wife at the tavern where the party was held.

ILLINOIS -- The man many Illinois politicians depended on as a trusted advisor has died. Gene Callahan passed away in his sleep Sunday night. He served as a Chief of Staff for Senator Alan Dixon; noted as one of the most successful Illinois politicians.

Those close to Callahan say he had the ear of dozens of lawmakers on both sides. U.S. Senator Dick Durbin says he never made an important political decision without calling Callahan. He was 80 years old.
