CHAMPAIGN -- With increased crime this time of year, break-ins are on the rise. Police want your help to track down criminals. They say, even if something small gets stolen, you should tell them.

People are usually quick to report a stolen wallet or TV, maybe not as much when it comes to smaller things like loose change from your car. But, police say it could all be part of a bigger picture of criminal activity, so it's important too.

Investigators say it's better to keep them in the loop, even if you didn't lose that much. That can help them connect the dots between other crimes happening in the city.

It's still a good reminder to lock your doors and close the garage because criminals are always looking for those easy opportunities. Police say these kinds of crimes happen year-round, but they do tend to spike around this time of year, or when students return to campus.
