SPRINGFIELD -- Police officers from across the state received special recognition Friday. 16 officers were honored at the Governor's Mansion with the Medal of Honor  for bravery and heroism on the job.

Illinois State Police host the annual event and say it's not just an award, it also serves as a reminder. Among those honored were fallen troopers James Sauter and Casey Kohlmeier who were killed in the line of duty. Their families accepted the medals.
