Positive Home Sales in Illinois Last Month

    Data released by the Illinois Association of Realtors shows January home sales were the strongest for the month since 2007. Statewide sales totaled more than 6,400 homes; a 16.1% increase since January 2011.
    Statewide median prices fell 9.3% from $135,000 to $122,500. The weakest January the past decade was 2009 when just 4,809 homes were sold according to the association's data.
    More than half Illinois counties reporting (53/95) showed year-over-year home sales increases last month. 39-counties showed year-over-year median price increases including Effingham (+2.7% to $131,000); McLean (+3.2% to $152,000); Peoria (+45.3% to $138,000); and Sangamon (+.7% to $120,750).
