SPRINGFIELD -- An area pastor temporarily resigned from the ministry pending the outcome of an investigation into a report of sexual misconduct with a minor. 61-year old Father Robert DeGrand is pastor of four parishes in Sigel, Neoga, Green Creek and Lillyville.

The alleged abuse was reported to the diocese's victim assistance coordinator last week. The incident reportedly took place in 1980 when Father DeGrand was assigned to Our Savior Parish in Jacksonville. DeGrand was ordained to the priesthood in May of that year.

Diocese officials notified the Morgan County State's Attorney's Office and DCFS as required by diocesan policy. Church officials say, in DeGrand's absence, Father Sunder Ery will act as temporary parochial administrator of the four parishes.

They also urge anyone with information about sexual abuse of a minor to contact police or the diocesan victim assistance coordinator.
