Principal stepping down

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) -- After less than a year on the job, Centennial High School's principal is leaving the position.

Brian Riegler took over for former principal Greg Johnson. But, Tuesday night, he announced his resignation. He says he wants to be closer to his family in the Chicago suburbs.

When he moved here this summer, his family didn't come with him. He broke the news to parents in an email.

Some say they're surprised, especially because his decision comes after less than eight months on the job. Some are concerned about what the turnover means for students.

This will be the school's third principal in three years. Parents say they want the job to go to someone who's invested in Centennial and the students.

Riegler will stay the rest of the school year; his final day being June 30. In the email, Riegler said his vacancy should be posted in a couple days and more information about the hiring process should come out next week.
