Prison inmates attack two correctional officers

PONTIAC, Ill. (WCIA) -- A correctional officer was hurt in an attack prison.

A sergeant was hit in the head while in close proximity to an inmate, while touring a gallery in the North Administrative Detention Cell House, at Pontiac Correctional Center.

When he was struck, he and a lieutenant tried leaving the gallery, but endured more assaults by other inmates throwing things from behind bars.

The uprising was apparently a planned attack. The jail's tactical team was brought in to handle the event.

The facility was placed on a level 1 lockdown. The sergeant was taken to the hospital where he received stitches for his wounds.

The facility remains on lockdown. IDOC is investigating.
