DECATUR -- Schools and businesses can now beat the odds against natural disasters. Statistics show 40 percent of businesses fail after a disaster.

That's why the American Red Cross started the "Ready Rating" program. It helps businesses, schools and organizations prepare for emergencies. People who sign up get help making a disaster plan and are given exercises to practice.

"We feel it's a very good assessment. It'll provide that assessment that'll say here's where we're weak and here's where we can build upon and here's where you can build upon that weakness and make you stronger," said executive director Carl Baker.

The program is free. Head to for more information.
