CHAMPAIGN -- A UI institute is making a major comeback. The Police Training Institute had to shut down for 5 months. With the economy in a slump, police departments weren't hiring.

But, this week PTI opened its doors. It has a full class with more than 40 recruits from across the state.

"It's been rated as one of the best places to go in the entire state, so having it still available for recruits is a very big deal," said recruit Chris Elston.

"I walked in for the first time this week with these new recruits and looking at these young men and women their eager faces, it actually gives me goosebumps," Director Michael Schlosser said.

PTI has been in the community for 60 years.
