DECATUR -- They went above and beyond when the time came and now they're being rewarded for their good deeds. Each year the American Red Cross has its Heartland Heroes Dinner.

People are being awarded for various things like being a good citizen to saving someone's life. That's exactly why Brock Dieu received the Valor Award.

Dieu's a Danville firefighter. In June, he was on a call when a couple tried to escape through the roof. The woman got stuck, but without hesitation, Dieu climbed up and got her down safely. Dieu has only been a firefighter for two years and says this was one of the first real fire calls he'd been on.

Nine others received awards. Two were girls who started a lemonade stand to raise money for tornado victims. B.G. Nevitt, a well-known pastor who died earlier this year, was given the In Memoriam Award.
