ILLINOIS -- The state is rolling out good news for some homeowners who need repairs. The Illinois Housing Development Authority (IHDA) has more than $6 million to shell out in grants.

The grant money is only available to homeowners in need. They must already live in the targeted area; it must be their primary residence; they must meet specific income guidelines; plus, the money must got to certain types of repairs like replacing roofing and siding or upgrading plumbing and heating systems.

Several counties in the state are included in the "Single-family, Owner-occupied Rehabilitation" program. Nearly 150 homes are expected to be fixed up.

The repairs are meant to help homeowners and their communities. Folks in Arcola, Mattoon and Charleston can all apply. The funds will become available in May.
