Road closed for bridge repairs

Update: 2:15 pm, 6/7/17, Wednesday 

CHAMPAIGN COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) -- Construction to shut down a three-mile stretch of road has been postponed. 

Work on Monticello Road was supposed to start at the beginning of June, but it's been moved back to June 19.

Pavement just a few miles west of I-57 and two bridges will be redone. Work should be done in November.

CHAMPAIGN COUNTY -- Starting next month, drivers will have to find alternatives to Monticello Road.

The Champaign County Highway Department will close three miles of it June 1 to fix two bridges, just a few miles west of I-57.

Monticello Road, also known as County Road 1000 North, will be shut down until November.

This week, crews closed the westbound shoulder of one of the bridges for safety concerns. Drivers should find alternate routes.
