CHAMPAIGN -- Thousands of students will move onto the UI campus Thursday. City officials hope a new intersection will help with traffic. The Fourth Street extension will be open at 10 am.

Crews have been working for more than a year on the project. Fourth Street is now connected from St. Mary's Road to Windsor. Workers were putting finishing touches of striping and lanes on it late Wednesday.

They were able to complete the project ahead of schedule. City leaders also hope the extension will bring in more business and develop Research Park and the area west of First Street.
