CHAMPAIGN -- Students in Unit 4 were back in class Wednesday, but not all of them were able to get there. School buses couldn't get to stops outside city limits. Now, parents are frustrated.

School leaders say it was just too dangerous. Rural routes still have a lot of ice and district officials don't want to chance it.

But, the decision is leaving nearly 100 kids at home without a ride to school. The district has tested rural routes each morning and found them covered in ice and snow drifts.

Drivers say, if a bus hits one drift, it's stuck. They can't just reverse and turn around. The district's transportation office has gotten a lot of calls from angry parents, but they say they'd rather be safe than sorry.
