SPRINGFIELD -- The State Fair is just a week away, but an important project won't be finished in time. The new roof on the grandstand won't be done. Officials say there's nothing to be worried about and it's not a safety concern.

The problem surfaced in May. Crews have been working to repair the roof, but it took longer than expected to get the metal sheeting. They're replacing wood paneling on the underside. Organizers say, even though the roof won't be finished, there's no need to worry.

While repairs are underway, construction on Happy Hollow continues. Authorities say the carnival will not be coming back. Going forward, the new site will serve as a showpiece for the fairgrounds. As a comfortable park and rest stop for visitors. It's a must see for anyone familiar with what the old space looked like.

Keep in mind, only a portion of it will be finished before fair time. The plan is being broken up into several phases. The fair runs August 7 - 17.
