MACON COUNTY -- The Red Kettle Campaign is off to a slow start. The Salvation Army says, at this point, only $70,000 has been raised.

At this time last year, it had raised $133,000. Its goal this year is $390,000. The office says a weak economy and support for tornado relief are two factors for the decrease in donations.

The Salvation Army of Champaign County says its donations are also down compared to this time last year. So far, it's raised about one-fourth of its $428,000 goal.
