CHAMPAIGN -- The Salvation Army stepped up to keep people out of the cold. Monday night, 16 extra people were welcomed inside. It was in addition to the 46 men usually accommodated by the shelter.

One member of the Salvation Army walked the streets asking if people needed the help. They ended up sprawled in hallways and even some were in the food hall.

The extra people left the shelter at noon. Some were given bus tokens and others were given gas money.
