Same-sex marriage losing ground?

SPRINGFIELD -- The effort to bring same-sex marriage to Illinois is losing steam. Thursday, Rhode Island signed a gay marriage bill into law. It makes it the tenth state in the country to allow it.

Many people thought Illinois would be that state, but House Speaker Mike Madigan (D) says the votes just aren't there right now in the House. Still, advocates say they aren't losing hope.

The state Senate passed the bill in February. If the House passes it, the governor says he'll sign it.
