CHAMPAIGN -- An area woman wants to warn people about a scam. Yvonne Jones says she got an email stating it was from Ameren. It stated she'd defaulted on her bill by more than $400 and asked for payment.
Jones knew it wasn't true and, when she called Ameren she found out it was a scam. The president and CEO of Ameren is warning customers the scam is very convincing. If you suspect you're being scammed, call Ameren Illinois for account verification.

ILLINOIS -- Ameren is warning about a scam targeting its customers. They say some people are getting emails which appear to be sent by the utility company.
The emails ask for information about your account and request an immediate payment. Ameren did not send the emails and says customers should not respond to them.
