SAVOY -- A Unit 4 school is being rewarded for being green. Carrie Busey Elementary School won the gold level certification for LEED. It stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Development.

The district says it was only aiming for silver when building the school but their natural lighting, collaborative learning spaces and geothermal heating and cooling systems pushed them over the edge.

Booker T. Washington and Garden Hills Elementary schools are also green at the gold level. The district hopes to have all its schools become more environmentally-friendly.
