CHAMPAIGN -- Jefferson Middle School is honoring Earth Day by celebrating the installation of its new wind turbine. The school held a special ribbon-cutting ceremony Tuesday morning. Administrators, students and staff watched as the ribbon was cut.

The wind turbine will allow students to get real-time data on alternative energy and energy production, plus, it will also supply the school with electricity. The turbine is located near the softball field behind the school. It will first be used for a sixth-grade unit on alternative energy.
