CHAMPAIGN -- Police are breaking their silence after more than a dozen gun-related calls in less than a week. Three people have been hurt so far. No one's been killed. But, investigators say they now need the public's help to put a stop to the violence.

People say they plan to bring up the issue at the city council meeting. All the violence isn't sitting well with residents. Some say they want to find out what needs to happen to make it stop.

There have been some arrests in these cases. The latest is 28-year old Chernenko Smith. He was charged with reckless discharge of a firearm. Investigators tracked him down after a shots fired call early Tuesday morning near the Country Brook Apartment Complex.

Authorities say some cases can be linked to each other with two groups going back and forth. Officials are looking for any information to help them find those responsible.

Police are patrolling the area where the shootings took place. They've also been talking to neighbors to find out more.

Five shootings have happened with seven calls of shots fired. Three armed suspects are being sought. At least two cars and two homes have been hit with gunfire.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers. You can remain anonymous and may earn a cash reward.
