CHAMPAIGN -- The UI and supporters of the Chief say they're satisfied with a recent settlement. It outlines how the "Honor the Chief Society" can support the symbol.

The settlement says the organization can't use the term "Chief Illiniwek" or the official logo. They must also make clear their events are not associated with the school.

But, it does let them honor their symbol and its history. The settlement ends a dispute which has been going on since 2008. That's a year after the UI officially retired the symbol.
