Sheriff recognizes graduating deputies

COLES COUNTY -- Two new graduates of the Illinois State Police Basic Training Academy were announced by the Coles County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies Nickolas Clapp and Patrick Easterday attended mandatory 12-week training which included learning the state's vehicle and criminal codes, firearms training, handling elderly subjects as well as those with mental health issues and extreme physical training.

Both deputies will now complete a Field Training Program at the sheriff's office. Deputy Clapp was hired in 2009 and transferred to patrol in 2012. Deputy Easterday was hired in 2008 and transferred to patrol in 2012.
