CHAMPAIGN -- Central High School's softball teams don't just take the field after school. Friday, they spent time helping others.

The varsity and JV squads cleaned up outside the Times Center. It's a men's homeless shelter.

The teams picked up trash and raked leaves. Players said cleaning up helps them not take their lives for granted.

"So we can see what I guess life is like besides what we see every day. And that we can help other people that are in need," said Madison Omer.

The softball players aren't the only athletes helping out. All CHS sports teams must do a community service project.
