SPRINGFIELD -- A National Guardsman is getting recognized for his bravery. Staff Sgt. Matthew Arnett, of Rochester, received the Outstanding Guardsman Award for pulling a man from a burning truck in March. The driver of a semi collided with a fuel tanker on Interstate 57 near Urbana.

Arnett witnessed the crash and quickly pulled over to help. He ran to the scene and checked on the victims. One man was trapped inside by a jammed door. Arnett and another passer-by used a pry bar to break the window.

The driver was taken to the hospital and was expected to make a full recovery. Arnett visited the man while he was there.

He says the two will always share a bond because of what happened. The driver of the other truck also got hurt, and was expected to be okay as well.
