Some Illinois college students will now get aid they need

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) -- Some college students here in Illinois will finally get the financial help they were promised.

The state has started handing out almost $400 million in overdue payments to MAP students.

The MAP program is made up of about 110,000 students at colleges across Illinois.

At Parkland College, nearly 1,000 people will get the aid they need.

"It's a big deal, people don't realize how much our students, especially our needy students, rely on this funding to help them go to school."

MAP students will get the grant money they were owed in the last school year, and for the upcoming year.
