It will be placed in front of the theater where Ebertfest is held annually. The statue will be life-sized, bronze and show Ebert how most people remember him; in a theater seat. He'll also be holding up his signature "thumbs up" gesture.
It's a design Roger's wife, Chaz, helped create. She worked with artist Rick Harney. He's taken time off lately to be with his autistic son. Harney says his son loves movies and movie reviews, so he couldn't pass up this project.
The sculpture will cost about $125,000. So, before it can be placed in front of the theater, the Ebert Sculpture Fund is looking for donations.
