Gifford is about 35 miles northeast of Champaign. Washington is in Tazewell County, near Peoria. WCIA-3's Jennifer Roscoe shows us some of the devastation.
This is what's left of Washington. A possible EF-4 tornado hit the town of 15,000 at speeds of 170 mph. Homes and businesses are unrecognizable. The devastation is blocks-wide. Homes were flattened by the twister moving about 60 mph.
About two hours later, a different storm; almost the same damage. Gifford sustained EF-2 damage. It means winds more than 110 mph. Dozens of homes in this town of less than 1,000 are damaged. Pieces of those lives are now scattered miles away.
