CHAMPAIGN -- Moms who usually have to go without, got a special holiday surprise. For the past month, clothes, makeup, baby diapers and wipes have been collected at Champaign schools.

Saturday, those 1,300 items were given to moms at the Center for Women in Transition just in time for Mother's Day.

It was for an initiative called "Safe Mom, Strong Families" letting moms of all backgrounds know they're not alone.

"It's mom's day but they don't have their own homes. As we all know as women, we're general of our households so we love to have our own places. So it's really, really nice when donations such as these come in," Executive Director Nancy Hiatt said.

Items were collected at Robeson Elementary, Carrie Busey and Kinder Care. Two Men and a Truck delivered them free of charge.
