UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS -- UI Ag students are giving back in a big way this month. They're raising money for scholarships for other students. They're learning a valuable lesson paying it forward.

One student decided to give $500 through the program. That's exactly how much she got as a scholarship from the College of ACES. The program is called "I Pay it Forward." Members of the Student Advancement Committee (SAC) talked about it Monday at the ACES Award of Merit Event.

Since starting on the first, more than 800 people have donated money to the cause. Most are students. Together, they've raised about $10,000. An advisor for the SAC Committee says, when these smaller donations add up, they make a pretty big impact.

Each person who has donated so far, gets his or her name put up in the ACES Library on campus. A lot of names are up there already, and the campaign is only halfway done.

The advisor says she hopes to see this spread to other colleges on campus and to become an annual event.
