CHAMPAIGN -- Unit 4 secretaries and teaching assistants have all been working without a contract, but Wednesday night, they struck a tentative deal with the district. This has been going on for months. Board members blame it on scheduling and say it was hard to get everyone in one room.

Now Unit 4 support staff have reached a deal with the district. That's 540 employees including custodians, cooks and mechanics. Members wouldn't go into specifics about the deal, but it is a three year contract

People say they're happy the district can finally move forward.

"It's definitely very nice to have both unions and negotiations over so now we're going into the holidays and everybody can rest easy and actually enjoy the holidays," board vice president Jamar Brown said.

This all isn't official quite yet. The union has to vote on it, then bring it back to the board. That's when it will be official. No word yet when that will be.
