CHAMPAIGN -- A 26-year old Urbana man faces charges for committing an armed bank robbery. Police say Kaleb Shields walked into the Central Illinois Bank in the 300-block of W. Springfield, just before noon Wednesday.
Witnesses say he handed tellers a note demanding money and implying he had a weapon. He fled on foot after being given an undisclosed amount of money.
Police found Shields hiding in the back yard of a home in the 200-block of E. Hill, within minutes of the crime. He's charged with aggravated robbery.
None of the nine people in the bank at the time were hurt. Authorities say there were seven employees and two customers.
This is the third bank robbery in Champaign this year. The others happened on the same day in March. Police believe they were related. No one's been arrested in those cases.
