ST. LOUIS -- The FBI says a quick arrest was made as a result of its publicity campaign. Less than 24-hours after officials dubbed a wanted suspect the I-55 Bandit, an Illinois man surrendered to officials.
Police believe 19-year old Andrew Maberry, of O'Fallon, is suspected of robbing banks in five states. The FBI's campaign led to dozens of solid tips according to FBI officials. It includes a source who says he called Maberry after seeing his picture and urged him to turn himself in.
ST. LOUIS, MO -- An Illinois man the FBI calls the "I-55 Bandit" has been arrested. Police believe he's responsible for ten hold-ups in five states, including Illinois, plus two attempted robberies. It's all been since May.
19-year old Andrew Maberry is charged with robbing the Commerce Bank in Arnold, Missouri. He turned himself in less than 24-hours after a publicity campaign was launched for his capture.
The FBI is investigating whether he was involved in other robberies. Maberry is a native of O'Fallon, Illinois.
