CHAMPAIGN -- Family and friends are remembering a teen killed in a car crash Thursday night. Mario McNeill went to Centennial High School the past few years before transferring to Tuscola. Friday would have been his 17th birthday.
The junior wore #11 for the varsity Champaign County Lacrosse team. His coach says Mario stood out from the rest because of his positive attitude and smiling face.
The Champaign County Coroner says Mario died from multiple blunt force injuries sustained in the crash. It happened near Cardinal and Rising roads just west of Champaign. Police say he lost control of the car and hit a power pole. It landed on top of the vehicle. Mario was wearing a seat belt. He was on his way to lacrosse practice.
