He decided there was no better way to keep Chad's memory alive than to post street signs. If you're driving on Route 4 from Auburn to Springfield, you'll see them on the road. They read, "In Memory of Corporal Chad Young."
Young died two years ago while serving with the marines in Afghanistan. Max heard the news and felt something needed to be done to honor him. So, with a little creativity and a lot of planning, the project came to be.
Those signs weren't easy to get. Max had to petition the village board for approval. Luckily its members thought it was an important cause and gave him the okay.
The signs were fairly expensive, costing $400. Max was able to pay for them with donations. Quite an achievement for someone so young.
